i4a was useful for our assocation when it was significantly smaller and less technologically advanced. When we started to expand our website offerings we quickly grew out of i4a.

Our client needed a system to allow chapters to access their info inside the parent system and this was the only option we could find. However, what was promised does not work and the entire platform is confusing and not user friendly. It does not even automatically invoice members like every other AMS in the world. We are now trying to work within two AMS systems which is far from ideal. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend. 

Customer service is very poor. You are told you have unlimited support but then are told some questions you may be billed for...an answer is an answer!  

Our team is definitely contuining to look for options to meet our clients needs in an effective and comprehensive manner.

The i4a platform is very confusing. Everything seems to be hard to find, or take more effort than it should. Even simple updates to a member record requires clicking on multiple screens. The platform moves very slowly too.

We have been wanting to move to an AMS for a few years now from what we currently use in Access database. We never got to the point where we used I4A totally. We were importing data and when we got to the point to customize the fields and forms and export the data in forms became too difficult. Their selection of authorized web designers are limited, although they do give you a project manager during the process. But the on-on-one training is watching videos and the project manager is really there to answer questions from the videos. They have unlimited records and if you don't have a lot of customization, it may be worth to try them. Another good advantage was the contract was a month-to-month deal and we were able to get a total refund.

We have been with i4a for 12 years and due to limited staff time we haven't been able to take advantage of some upgrades that are available to the system. We are planning on changing to a system that can better meet our needs. Currently with i4a we found that one needs to know more about code to troubleshoot web page and and email challenges. Even with their WYSIWYG set up, that isn't always the case. Also customer support is limited. We have a pre-pay plan for a couple hours per month of support. If we don't use it we lose it. And if you go over one month you need to pay extra. If you need a simple system and you know code I think you can make this platform work for you. Which is why I would only recommend, but with reservations.

I4A is a very low cost AMS solution. We have had it in place for approximately 10 years. The customer service staff is generally responsive, but doesn't seem interested in trying to make your life easier. We use it for a hybrid trade/individual membership, and one of the most frustrating things is when an individual transfers to a new organization - their activity and financial records get left behind with their old record, while a new, clean record is created. So it would appear that though they may have attended your annual meeting for the last five years, they look like a newbie because of their new record. Committee activity gets duplicated in the same scenario. So if your chair changes jobs, and you run a roster, your chair gets listed twice.

We've been with i4a for several years and do see that they are trying to compete but it feels as though they are always playing catch-up with other players in the market. I've always thought that we got a decent product for the price that we are paying but after doing some shopping around, I'm not 100% certain of that any more.

We got with I4A in 2009 I believe. Not sure what others are paying, but we are still in under our original deal of $2000/yr + $95/mo hosting. Our staff has had a large number of challenges with I4A but far and away most serious is the event registration. If you are considering them today, I really encourage you to put them through the paces carefully and strenuously regarding this aspect. We have an organization-based membership model and it has always seemed to me like I4A is built for an individual-based membership. It can handle organization-based, but it struggles.

We've used i4a for a number of years. While the product generally works, i4a seems to offload too much onto its users. The administrative back-end of the system is poorly designed with no real sense of workflow even for areas where workflows should be pretty easy to define (e.g., new member application processing). New releases tend to be buggy. Some of the bugs are big and obvious. This has made us question whether i4a has a sufficiently rigorous pre-release testing process in place.

Overall we have always been pleased with the support from I4A. Where their system is lacking is in creating full functioning responsive websites, more robust membership profiles specifically linking to social media and tracking courses and certifications.

I4A is a good bargain AMS/Website solution. We've been with them for 6 years and for $5000, its hard to beat that it allows for meetings, members only content, store, and CMS along with website design. However there is no customization at all and there's a lack of email stats, the query function is limited and you are restricted to one member type on each organization.

The Little Engine Often Needs a Push

We are a small association (less than 10 full time employees) with over 5,000 employees. We've had the system in place for over approximately 6 years. It is a system that is utilized primarily for membership, accounting, meeting registration, website hosting, and e-commerce (online store). The system is built on a accounting foundation. It is a very easy system to use. It is probably one of the least expensive system for areas ( i.e. membership, store, registrations) and the functions work okay; they have not changed much since the system was developed. From viewing AMS demos, it is a system that is way behind the curve as many associations are now only working to increase member engagement, have interactive and engaging website, have higher level accounting tracking needs (outside of Quickbooks), and require advanced email marketing capabilities (for advance campaign or data tracking) as a all-in-one. Requesting the development of more functions such as electronic membership cards, online store enhancements, creation of new form functions, etc. have been frustrating. You know it is available out there with out systems but it may not make it as a need to do within this environment. We tested the online journal application and immediately knew that it would cause more frustration, would not give us a polished, professional look and would create more the issues we were trying to solve. We opted to purchase an external software. After reviewing a demo of a content management system built on applications, it is easy to see how much time would be saved if we didn't have to do things pretty much the same way it has been done for years. It is an adequate system for the very small association who have the basic level of needs for handling multiple small scale functions and are not looking to expand drastically over the next few years. The staff who work on the back-end have been cordial and responsive (even when they have to give you a solution that is not adequate). For associations with more current technologies needs (esp. as organizations that require more application-based system), and who are trying to do more within one system, I would not recommend. We have outgrown the system and are looking for other systems within the next year or so with higher level capabilities. For other associations just launching or have relatively similar needs, this may be the perfect system.

We have been using internet4associations for 6 years after transitioning from FrontPage. The AMS is clunky but does its job for a small association. We have plans to move to a new AMS next year as i4a just doesn't do it for us anymore. Pros Integrated website and user database Customer service response is usually quick Simple user interface works well for a small staff and association Best for an individual association Cons Very little customization available Website templates difficult to use and very static Every time i4a does a system update something goes offline for us Difficult to query all contact data in one report Does not integrate with external services (i.e. BlueHornet) Not great for a trade association

We have been an I4A user for several years. Over the past year or so they have been launching upgrades that are buggy and unreliable. They plan these upgrades without asking what features customers would like and often address areas that are not our primary concerns. Their support has been excellent in trying to resolve issues, but the overall direction of the platform seems to be downward.
