Good Solid Back-office Platform

MemberMax is a great back-office AMS system. It has excellent flexibility in terms of managing our members which are companies and the associated branches and individuals that flow up to the single corporate membership. We have 50 or so company memberships attached to 5000 affiliates and individuals associated with them. MemberMax handles this structure very well. MemberMax has a solid and dependable accounting structure. We use QuickBooks and are easily able to download summary information on a monthly basis. The Accounts Receivable detail is kept in MemberMax, everything else lives in QuickBooks. It is very accurate and if there is a question, it is fairly easy to go back and find the necessary detail to answer questions. This is definitely their strength. 
The customer support is excellent. We have been able to customize our website and registration process to handle both simple and complex event registrations. Support staff is knowledgeable, helpful, easy to work with and willing to help us achieve our goals. We recently linked our data to a community platform. They were able to help us create a single sign-on (SOAP) and move data between the two systems. MemberMax programmers are so smart, easy talk to and helpful.
The website side of the program is a little less satisfactory. That's not to say it doesn't work alright, it just doesn't have some of the sexy capabilities of other web focused programs. That being said it is dependable and flexible enough. We like the ability to draw information from the database to display details online, i.e., committees, board of directors, membership information. The CMS is easy to use. Web design needs some updating, which I am told they are working on. I would much rather have accurate back-office information and dependability that MemberMax provides. MemberMax is the third AMS we have used. Others seem to have started on the website/user interface side of things but neglected back-office tasks. I would rather have MemberMax. It is far superior to any of the previous programs in terms of affordability, accuracy, flexibility and accounting procedures. The learning curve was steep, implementation took some time and development of procedures was challenging, but worth it.

The AMS space is challenging for a lot of associations, because data is the lifeblood of a member-based organization. MemberMax helps our association address not only our data and accounting needs, but the ease of pushing data and content to the web really sets MemberMax apart.

We've had excellent experience with the customer service and support of Impact Solutions, and highly recommend this product to other associations!

While MM is reliable and has given us the ability to store historical information, it is far from cutting edge. In fact, it doesn't even keep up with basic technology. It offers websites but no mobile friendly features, any programming you need has to go through their developers and it'll cost you, implementations like making the software Windows 10 compatible is charged back to the customers ($5,000) and just try getting them to initiate monthly payment options. While the basic AMS software is decent, the poor customer service and behind-the-times supporting software leaves a lot to be desired.

An AMS to die for!!

The provider is continually upgrading across the platform and all subscribers at the time of upgrade enjoy the benefits of it. Any customization by a single subscriber that may have application to others is often made a part of the general upgrade. The system is incredibly robust and has much more functionality than we have been able to take advantage of, though what we do use has served us well. We use it for membership data, conference registration and management, e-commerce, and accounting. In fact, it is very focused on the accounting needs and interfaces well with QuickBooks. There are numerous reports built into the system as well as a report generator, that requires a higher level of computer literacy than we have to optimize its benefits. However, the providers are very willing to create reusable reports whenever we ask.

The biggest drawback is the system's inability to be customized or integrated with other systems. It holds down our daily operations well, and does the job. But web customizations are clunky and require knowledge of the (very limited) 4D scripting language. Web security features are embarrassingly sub-standard. Data cannot be imported to the system by users. Any integration with a 3rd party must be done by the vendor for a significant fee. It's an older product that is having a hard time keeping up with the current technological landscape. Our small organization (12 staff) has outgrown this.

We chose MemberMax because it would provide the features our association needed at a modest price. We got what we paid for! The user interface is not terribly user-friendly, and our staff has had to implement a lot of creative work-arounds to get the software to do what we need it to do. The customer service personnel for the vendor, while they are willing and try to be helpful, are not at all talented at conveying information to human beings who aren't IT professionals. However: the system works, we don't experience much in the way of downtime, we have the features we absolutely needed to have, and the cost remains modest and affordable, especially in comparison to other vendors.

As a user since 2011 we are, for the most part, satisfied with MemberMax as our AMS. We had several different databases (we used Filemaker) that were imported during the initial setup but the implementation went fairly smooth. Most of our requests are fulfilled in one way or another but we do find that customer service is sometimes an issue. MemberMax has a small staff and several of the staff are related to the owner of the company. This dynamic can be problematic. Also, we get charged for all custom programming now so if you want to make changed to the setup, do it at the time of implementation if at all possible. The software does get regular updates and is hosted by Applications2U which is very dependable. We have integrated our database and web site so that our members can update their own information, make online payments, make donation to our Foundation, etc., all online. This reduced the workload on our staff and allowed us to put more focus on other projects. There are some things that need improvement (ability for automatic monthly payments, publication module) but for the most part it works well.

Decent Product with staff that over promises

The product is a decent product with relatively good customer service, but they over promised on what the product could do and they over promised on what they could program as far as customization goes. The training was completely ruined because they didn't check on the connectivity issues that we had reported prior to trying to train us, and then they sent someone who was one of the worst teachers I've ever seen. We ended up having to train ourselves. Basically, unless you want to use their program straight "out of the box", don't use them.

We host MemberMax internally and are an Association Management Company, we've had up to 14 different clients hosted in our environment. The system if very flexible and allows us to customize features for each of our different clients. We also do quite a bit of customization on the website pieces. We use a few of the built in reports, but mostly use the Ad Hoc reports and output our data. You are able to search on just about any field within MemberMax so pulling up the data you want is fairly easy. The main issue we have had is that when we purchase a customization there is usually a delay in the delivery. It doesn't always fall in the time line that it is needed in. But on the plus side, usually the delay is due to testing, so when you do get the new feature it usually works. The staff is fairly responsive and we don't get charged every time we make a request for assistance.

As the Executive Director of a statewide trade association, I can say that MemberMax is a mediocre AMS. In working with the product and with our association staff team, MemberMax lacks many of the features that I consider to be basic for any AMS. Want to offer your members a quarterly or monthly payment plan via credit card? Would it be useful to have each payment plan payment marked in that member's record? I think so but MemberMax can't do both of those unless you wish to have a lengthy work around. The bonus surprise? You get to pay them additional money to create it. We've also discovered surprises when we went through our financial audit as to how MemberMax changes past data history for a member when their status is changed to reflect their lapsed/expired/"non-member" status. MemberMax overwrites the old data for these expired members so when you pull a prior year invoice....the dollar amounts have changed or been set to zero. The customer service has been spotty in terms of communication quality, timeliness of response and thoroughness. It appears some of the support team doesn't fully read the customer service request before responding and, as a result, a great deal of time is wasted on "back and forth" where they request info you provided from the onset. Frustrating! On the plus side, MemberMax works on both PC and MAC systems. In short, this AMS is in need of a substantial overhaul to incorporate standard features into the system....features that other AMS systems provide without extra charge.
