We were Affiniscape users who merged with YM many years ago. The customer service is improving but still is inefficient. The online registration process was so unreliable we purchased CVENT and now the two fees combined is ridiculous. YM has many options, but for a small Association with 8 events a year, its not a good fit. Be sure to ask about their policy on support, it use to be 48 hours turn around. Unacceptable to me.

The site is constantly going down making the back-end and the front-end unreliable. It is not ease of access for our members. Since YM is blacklisted, members rarely receive emails through the system (like a simple password reset). When customer service is called, they don't answer or do not have the answer. There are a lot of challenges to this system. Not user friendly. We are account executives not IT, web designers... which feels like what you need to operate this system. Very many challenges persist.

YM works for us, for now

We implemented YourMembership in 2016. It was a huge improvement over the custom database my client had previously built, in the sense that there was a full set of administrative features. We moved our entire website to YM, including discussion forums, resource library, and groups. Within the first three months after the went live with YM, we started searching for a community software platform to handle those three features, as YM's features were not intuitive or convenient for collaboration. We chose Higher Logic for our community, which was very well received. The combination of Higher Logic for collaboration and YM for database is working for us, for now. For basic dues and event registrations, it works. For reporting, I find that everything I need is there in the back end, but it often takes some digging or extra work in Excel to get what I need. We'll be evaluating our digital presence next year as part of a larger branding project, and an evaluation of our AMS will probably be included. The real stay-or-go test may be integrations - so far, the YM API has been sufficient, but we will be looking to create a more seamless experience as users move between YM, Higher Logic, our benchmarking survey site, our webinar site...

- Customer service is easy to reach either online or by phone which is very helpful, but unfortunately it often feels like we need to contact them too much - There are a lot of add-on options for management which sometime feel like they should have been part of a general upgrade to the current system and aren't throughly tested before roll out - Reporting needs to be more customizable and intuitive - Events are also not robust, we're able to use them for smaller events but have a 3rd party integration for our annual conference in order to handle all of the registration types and session tickets required - The website and email building is fairly easy to use - Engagement opportunities including SocialLink and Groups are still confusing and not as intuitive as our members would like - Career Center integration is good, easy for staff to manage and as a revenue source.

Customer service - Wait times on the phone are long. You are highly encouraged to submit your service request online and it usually takes 24-48 hours for a response. Membership - The option to pro-rate dues throughout the year isn't customizable enough to use for our dues structure. We manually go in and change the amount to charge because the pro-ration can't be done how we need it to. I also was unable to do renewals through the software because the software didn't allow me to enter the dates and amounts in how I needed to. Event Registrations - The software is fine for simple registrations but doesn't work well for more complex situations such as having both registration and products or multiple options for each time period.

We have been using yourmembership for about 8 years. The original intent was for members to use it as a social media site but it never took off. In all fairness, it probably works OK for a professional association, however, as a trade association...not so much. Everything from the data exporting, editing, event management and look and feel leaves much to be desired. The customer service response time is horrendous.

We switched to YourMembership when they purchased Affiniscape. We had been a happy Members 360 user and were told that the idea was to take the best of M360 and the best of YM and incorporate them into a single AMS. That would have been incredible, however it did not happen. As a trade organization it became apparent that YM is built for professional organizations and societies that have individual members instead of company memberships. There is a lot of great stuff in YM - the social plug ins, the directory searches, email customization - but the lack of functionality for trade organizations with company members eventually made us look elsewhere.

We have used YM for 3 years. We had a very rocky start with poor customer support in 2014, but within the first 12 months that greatly improved. The next year was pretty steady with improvements being made to the system but not where we needed them. None of my requests were ever implemented, but there were changes that negatively affected our processes. Nonetheless, I was willing to stay true. The last 6 months I think there has been a drop off in the level of support, buggy releases, a lack of release notes, and a general lack in communication or improvement in anything we need.

YM does "pretty much" all we need but never to 100% satisfaction. There are always trade-offs and accommodations. I can do what I need to do but not always the way I want to do it. There are constraints based on early stage decisions that I did not know I would encounter when I was a newbie. The staff are good folks and earnest and they roll up their sleeves to help. Frustration comes from wanting simple things (like log-in screen that knows your name) that they just cannot do. Adoption rate is way below my modest expectations. The pay-off for Members is not as great as for staff. Truth is 2 people are managing a $750,000 budget very efficiently because of YM. So that is pretty good.

I have collaborated with YM on two different websites. Each time I was in the best of hands during the entire implementation process and for the support that I needed after our launch. There has never been a time that I've felt alone on an island with the great amounts of customizability and features. The YM team has had meetings with me and pulled in key individuals to assist in various areas. There's no perfect AMS, or we would all be running to them. However, with YM, there is an idea box where you can submit areas that you would like to see them improve or enhance. No, this doesn't mean every idea will be taken to the next level, but it allows us to voice our concerns, vote on others' ideas, and assist YM to continue to improve their system. One of those areas that has been a constant and popular area for improvement is the Forums. In order to receive updates, one must subscribe at many different levels. This is rather complex and bothersome for individuals who have to go through this process. One other area that would be a positive would be to create admin page level permissions on the backend

I've used most of the big-budget AMSs and have to say that, compared to them, YourMembership is actually pretty good. It's very easy to use and the UI is good. Support is generally pretty good and downtime is very infrequent, and YM does a really good job keeping clients updated in the rare instances that there is downtime. That said, I wish YM would focus more on the core product and perfecting that rather than chasing too many implementations and add-ons, which definitely takes away from the core product, IMO. For instance, there are features of the AMS that are just absent--like accrual-based dues reports--that they've been aware of and "working on" for a year, and still haven't resolved. For a system that is supposed to be designed specifically for associations, this is a huge flaw, as many associations are on a rolling dues model and need an AMS that can accurately capture and report dues revenue. Then there's the CMS--again, pretty decent overall if you don't have a lot of content or need stuff like secondary nav, but if you're used to a robust CMS, you'll be disappointed with theirs. If I had been here during the selection, I would have chosen a different CMS...but for the most part, YM's is adequate. I do hate that there's no super-admin level access--there are certain parts of your website that you can't touch/edit and have to go through YM support for which is a pain. Also, I don't like that they tie functions like advertising to a package deal where they have to sell the ads in order for you to be able to use their built-in ad server--if you have an in-house or contract sales team, you're on your own in terms of figuring out how to serve ads to your website. A big caveat if you're a small-budget org looking at YM--they only work with two payment processors and both are WAY more expensive than what we used previously, which has resulted in much higher costs than allocated based on YM's pricing model. Beware of this hidden charge and look into the cost of payment processing when you're making your decisions. Also, their design team/support is pretty lame and we never got what was promised in the package we went with--so be sure to be on top of everything you're promised in terms of design and if you go with the top-tier branding package, stay on them to be sure you get everything that's included in the price.

We are an AMC with 3 clients currently using YourMembership. We are finding that it is very inflexible and lacking in many areas that are crucial, particularly membership and financial tracking. One big issue we find is that many areas do not appear to track historical data, especially for non-members who then become members. Also, committees are set up as groups combined with titles, but no dates, and do not track history. The lack of historical tracking is very problematic for our clients. There also appears to be no way to create multi-instance tables to track ongoing demographic data for a person or company/org. In our other AMS we use this regularly for tracking items like education history, address history, multiple licenses to practice (i.e. attorneys), etc. YM does have very good technical support and on-demand training videos/manuals. There are also many areas where it does really well (email communications, etc.), but unfortunately the standard modules that our clients need are not well developed and are functionally lacking.

YM has a decent all-around product. It does a little bit of everything, but doesn't do anything particularly well. They do not seem to be innovating, or trying to enhance the product. The email marketing component is terrible and the partnership they struck with an outside email tool, is wildly expensive.

When we started, if you had an event where there were members-only options that required registration and payment, you had to set up two separate event tickets--one for members and one for nonmembers, or one for the event w/ members-only options, and one w/o. Bulk email is a little clunky. You can do a search to build a list, and you can remove people, one by one, from that list, but you can't add anyone to it, or build a list of individuals. They finally started capturing information from non-member registrations, which is awesome. You can prepare a bulk email and set the time/date when it will go out, BUT the list it goes to will NOT refresh itself. If you have an email going out to members only, and you prepare it a week ahead of time, and five people join in that week, the email will not go to those people. All that being said, it's easy to use, easy to navigate, the training videos are clear and available 24-7, and customer service is usually very responsive -- just maybe not when it comes to website re-design. We chose it mainly for its directory. We have a public-facing member directory that gives our members LOTS of options and helps them sell themselves. We don't use the features where members can have communities on the site, or the gamification system, but there are lots of potential opportunities there.

Fit For Associations With Simple Needs -- Otherwise, Be Careful

Reviewed on Jun 17, 2016 - Archived Review

Customer Service
Ease of Use

If your association needs a basic system that will allow you to have a website fully integrated with your association database, this may be the system for you. You can send email, do simple attendee registrations, maintain group areas, take dues payments, accept donations, have blogs, forums, a job board and create custom forms. What would not be a good fit? If you need to do booth assignments and registrations; need a true accounts receivable system to track multiple exhibit payments; want to be able to print and review the setup tables for anything -- like print your store inventory setup to review; want to be able to print badges and tickets from the system; if you want to be able to interface with other systems -- you will be very disappointed. There is also not an optimized back end series of processes staff can do to quickly process dues and registrations. One big problem is that the API is subpar in being able to connect to other major services. You will find again and again that services that other AMS packages can connect to say they cannot interface with YourMembership due to their inadequate API. The other issue is that although they say that their template is responsive, we have found numerous cases where features do not work properly on mobile devices. This is even after we've vetted all the page content that we have created. We've tracked it down a number of times to the way YourMembership designs and codes the pages. They also do not share a roadmap of the product, and the updates are all over the place. There does not seem to be a clear vision and focus for the product. Communication about price increases has been very poor -- we usually only find out when we get the invoice for the next year. We've also had issues where their product has malfunctioned and corrupted data, yet they refuse to fix the data, saying they cannot do it. Additionally, bugs have been pointed out in the system, but these are "sent to the developers," with no estimated time frame for a a fix, and most never have been fixed. If your association has very basic needs that fit within the scope of what the system does, you may be happy with the system. For everyone else, be careful.

I've worked with many databases during my 25+ years as an association executive and this, by far, is the worst I've come across. The customer service people are extremely accommodating (and must be the busiest people on the planet) but more often than not, the result is the need to develop some type of work-around or yet again another manual process to obtain the results needed. And often times those results are not completely accurate, especially when dealing with reports. We were with Affiniscape prior to the merger and we have lost so much functionality that we are now looking at another system, which can't come soon enough. Perhaps YM works for organizations that don't have many requirements, but for us it has been a complete bust and extremely frustrating. My recommendation would be to be as specific as possible in determining what you need, not only now but in the future, and ask a lot of questions along the way should you decide to implement YM as your AMS.

yourmembership.com is marketed as a one-stop shop AMS. Some of the features the offer work well enough, others are very bulky. We've had YM for about 3 years now and are OK with it overall. I wish some features were better such as the groups, discussion forums, event registration, etc, but it is a low cost solution that has worked fine for our small organization. The customer service has improved and they are constantly striving to become better which is nice.

Our non-profit association has been using yourmembership.com for several years now. The first 2/2.5 years were great. We imported everything, got the front end designed like we wanted, and even worked closely with their AMS design team to add more functionality to several of their built-in modules, like Certifications. However, even with some of the changes they made, there were several limitations, especially in the Professional Development area and events. They finally did an update of the events module, but it is still very limited. We have always been frustrated by the community side of yourmembership.com. While it sounds great, in todays social and moible world, it is very disappointing and difficult to navigate. It is like Facebook v.1 and has never changed. They say the community is "mobile friendly". Well, it can be viewed on a mobile device, but it is NOT moible friendly and not responsive. Yourmembership has API available, but when we asked for mobile apps, they had no suggestions other than we were on our own. Their API is difficult to use and you only get access to certain areas. Recently, we happened to stubble on more API calls that are now available, but as I said, it is not easy to do unless you pay a mobile app developer big bucks to figure it all out. Recently, we decided to go with their Brand+ option for a refresh, where you can pay around $10,000 for a custom mobile responsive site. However, after we paid and we learned it was only for the front end public pages, not the member community side! What is the point! As we got started designing, we were told that they have implemented a new development schedule called "Sprints". Basically, they will batch all their design changes/requests and cram it into a two week hack-a-thon. Then everyone takes off to 4-5 weeks. WHAT? All the changes we make to their "sprint design" we mark-up the next week, but have to wait until the next sprint (and God help you if you miss getting your changes into the next sprint!). We have been working on our home page (yes, just our home page) for 8 months! And they still don't have what we want. Customer service used to be much better. Now, it takes multiple support tickets, emails, and phone calls to even get someone to give you an answer. And their answer is usually, "We will have to get back to you on that" or "We can't do that". Not very helpful. Why they don't have an assigned account manager for groups is a question we have always asked. Someone personal that we can contact when there is problems that general CService can't help out with. We are now weighing our options on YM. Don't get me wrong, they do have some good things and it might work well for others. But for us, the cons are beginning to out weigh the pros.
