Not intuitive, can do almost anything - but you may never figure it out. Templates look like they are from last century however, in our experience, many off the shelf programs are in the same boat.

The interface is very slow regardless of your internet provider speed and it lacks the flexibility to track organizations as well as individuals. They are constantly working to add and update features, but I would prefer a product that is more finished/final and proven. Three years in and it feels like we are all still learning as we go and it gets very frustrating.

YM has a host of interesting and useful tools but the limitations of their email marketing, lack of automation, limited segmentation and list creation makes this solid AMS a real bust when it comes to a robust marketing solution. They are making in-roads by partnering with third-parties to fill in gaps (online communities, mobile apps, and email systems) but the limited and clunky queries and inability to create special segments or build lists based on behavior makes this AMS a real drag to use.

We made the change from Affiniscape to Yourmembership.com after five years with Affiniscape. Although we were not seeking to change, the merger of these two companies necessitated it. We were told that YourMembership.com was the stronger of these two systems, but we have not found that to be the case at all. Our data migration process was beyond frustrating, and we lost considerable data, e.g., member history and ALL prior years accounting history except open transactions. Further, we constantly battled inflexibility in online event registration and the online store. And the ultimate frustration, there is basically no accounting package with Yourmembership.com. Want to see a current accounting history for a member? Not possible. Since I hate to be a Negative Nellie and share only the bad and ugly, I will say one good. Their support team tries hard. They are friendly and nice, but all too often they can only say, "Our system doesn't accommodate that."

We switched to YM.com after they purchased the AMS we were using at the time, Affiniscape. Affiniscape wasn't a great product and YM.com is worse. Support during website development was nonexistent. We purchased a template with the understanding we would "hire" them to help us build it and our CEO had to call every single person at the company for months on end to receive any type of one-on-one training. They expected us to learn how to build the website using just their incomplete webinars and PDF instruction files. 5 microsite pages we actually did pay them to develop for us still don't work correctly; I have been working with support for more than 2 weeks to fix them with no resolution in sight. When transferring our database, we had to send and revise the data over and over again because it would consistently be uploaded incorrectly or incompletely. The events module is cumbersome and doesn't do what we need it to - mainly allow members to register quickly and accurately, and pull the right information for name badges and reports - although they say an upgrade is coming. We stopped using their internal email/messaging system altogether because the formatting would change without being edited and some emails scheduled through the queue would be lost, never to be sent or even found again. Their online communities are so convoluted and complex we attempted to set them up quickly decided to hire a third party to manage this for us on another significantly more user-friendly system. and In summary, after doing all we could to be heard - going so far as to work with other users to get the company's attention - we are currently looking for a new provider because the fixes to problems within YM.com's web services and database solutions are few and far between. Although service through support has gotten better, the product has not. We hope to only be with them for another year while we transition to both a new website host and AMS provider.

YM has a good balance between being user friendly and customizable. There is alot that can be customized in YM. Many things are fairly simple to customize, others are more difficult. There are not many barriers to creating what you want. Because of the level of customization possibilities there is a lot to learn and undestand on the back end. I find that every works and works well, however sometimes the setup can be a bit daunting. The only complaint I have is that it is not always intuitive for end users, many items are hidden behind menus and not easy to find. It is easy once you know where to look, however many times it is a challenge to find it. Overall it is a good program without many program issues.

YourMembership.com was originally built as software for alumni organizations. When Affiniscape users were moved to YourMembership we lost a lot of functionality and personalization that we had grown used to in the old system. We took several steps backwards with the implementation of YourMembership. As soon as we went live, all of our outstanding projects were set aside. It became impossible to get customer service without a lot of pestering on the part of our staff. There was no testing before data was put into the system. As a result our membership data was corrupted and YourMembership had to restore the database to its prior version. It now takes us half a day to run a report to mail newsletters to members. That's just one of the many struggles we've faced with this system.

We have been using YM since approximately 2010 and overall it works very well for our needs. It isn't perfect (nothing is!), but it is reliable and for the most part easy-to-use. We have been very pleased with the continual improvements that have been made and which are rolled out to all customers. Uptime has been excellent. The forward-facing website is very flexible and easy to customize. Easy to teach non-technical people to use. The admin panel has recently been refreshed and offers a more intuitive experience. Biggest complaint is that the product is not mobile-optimized.

Pros - Inexpensive. Easy to learn. They have been making updates recently, which is appreciated. The Help Desk system, which they are utilizing to solve most inquiries, is well-managed. It is a good option if you have a limited budget, simple business and aren't looking for a lot of advanced functionality beyond basic membership management. Cons - It still feels like itÕs meant for a university not a business. Tracking income is difficult. Store functionality is outdated and not very customizable. Reporting is not intuitive. Seeing the details you want about members requires more clicks than necessary. The search/query functions are limited and unreliable. Our members donÕt like registering for an event that requires repeatedly entering the same information. Their invoicing system is inefficient and does not allow for a mass emailing of invoices. Members paying have to go through about 3 screens entering the same information several times. The password reset system is overly complicated.

I just attended the YourMembership Conference after having the system for a little over one year. Exciting news is the features they're adding: customizable infographic dashboard, LinkedIn looking profiles, DropBox like resource center, app and mobile site. I understand they're trying to maintain the customer service requests via support tickets although I do miss MemberClicks who had pristine service every time you called. I think they have an exciting future ahead of them.

Stick With What You're Best At

Like all AMSs, you have to know what it's primarily good at because that is what you are buying. The secondary add-in functions are just that--added on--and not the best or most robust functions. YM is good on the membership side including handling corporate memberships, but also tracking individual staff members who are the ones who participate in the activities of the organization. I bought YM to automate my dues invoicing, and that has not proven to be as automatic as I would like. There are little issues like if someone renews later than the cut-off date, everyone who is connected to that member is suspended, and I have to individually reactivate all of the members once the dues are paid. Wouldn't it make more sense to reactivate all of them once the corporate dues are paid? YM includes a registration system which is bulky and difficult to use for the users, especially if you have lots of breakouts during your meeting. My users are forever confusing the link to register for the website with registering for the meeting. One of the key add-ins that I use is with QuickBooks. It's a good add-in and worth the extra dollars except when they upgrade the YM software. I was told that I would only have to use QB in admin mode the first time, but I actually have to use it in admin mode every time or the YM add-in doesn't work. Reporting is my least favorite function. If the default reports in the list are what you want, you'll be fine. One of the reports that I have wanted is to see total sales for a store item including discounts. I wanted to be able to compare what YM says I have sold with what QuickBooks says my sales have been. Cannot do it regardless of how many times I try and how many customer service people help. They don't seem to understand what I am trying to get at. I have created a workaround so that my exhibitors can "purchase" space at my trade show and pay by credit card. After 3 years, I've figured out how to use it to meet my needs, but the biggest issue I have is that it doesn't meet the needs of my users. They register regular complaints that it is confusing and unclear.

YourMembership offers a ton of features, and we love that they keep adding new things and improving existing ones, improving the platform for our members as well as website admins. Though the upfront fee is higher than other platforms we considered, we like that YourMembership's price is all-inclusive, regardless of number of members, features used, etc. They offer a few larger add-ons at additional costs, but all the main upgrades are included in the annual fee. The staff is professional and knowledgeable, and always quick to respond to our questions or concerns. The downside, which I expect is the case with most AMS platforms, is that things are not completely customizable. For example, in the directory pages we can add custom fields, but we can't change the way those pages are displayed.

We were with Affiniscape, using both their 24/7 software and then M360. We are accustomed to the notion that an "off the shelf" system won't be perfect for us. When YourMembership bought Affiniscape we had to make a choice of whether to continue with YM or move to another system. We did our due diligence; looked at several other companies and asked the a LOT of questions pertaining to how the system would integrate with the way we handle due, meeting registration and payments, donations (from members and nonmembers), etc. We explained that we have specialty Divisions that our members pay for when they join or renew their membership and that those payments should be integrated. We explained how our financial management works and the needs we have. We explained that we have a complicated dues system with a number of member types. We explained our need for accurate and easily produced reports, and we explained that we have a continuing professional education component to what we do. And on and on. We got nothing but assurances that YM was the system for us. We scheduled our migration very carefully for the summer so that it would fall between our annual conference and our membership campaign in the Fall. And so it began. There were multiple delays in getting our website completed and in getting our data migrated. We were finally up and running on October 31, 2014. There have been multiple issues. Some things don't work as promised. Some omissions in the development of the product are astounding if it was intended for member-based associations. My staff spends far too much time trying to get resolutions from the support staff. The system is fragmented and not fully integrated. The invoicing system is cumbersome. And on and on. It is a huge disappointment, and although they continue to say they are working on "fixes" not a day goes by that I don't hear from my staff about how difficult it is to do their work using this system. I feel as if we are beta-testing it for them and providing valuable input for the always-promised new and better "product release." And I know I'm not the only one because I have talked to many people who are having the same experience and even the support staff frequently admits that "you are certainly not the only one who has mentioned this" or "yes, I can see how that would have been a better choice for the programming." Didn't anyone talk to a potential end-user in a member-based association before going public? Stuck for now, and not a happy CEO to think that I will have to start over!

There doesn't seem to be much room for customizing reports, dashboards, records... that I'm aware of. We really haven't received much if any training on the system. Whenever there is an issue you must submit a ticket rather than an IM or a phone call. Frustrating when you need to get something done in a timely manner. Also unable to enter group registrations for events. They must be individually entered.

Inability to defer dues could be dealbreaker

We have been using YourMembership since 2012 for our AMS and website. In general it functions fairly well as a basic database and website. We have issues with the following features. The group email functionality is too basic and does not provide us with the tools needed to effectively reach our members. Because of this we continue to pay to use another tool to email our members. It is the same with the survey/form feature. The database and query functions continue to leave us baffled. Queries of the same exact membership groups conducted as a whole group provides one number for total membership, while queries of the membership groups conducted one at a time and then tallied provides a different number. This is when the exact same criteria are used for the search. The only difference is that the all of the groups are searched one time and each groups is searched individually the second time. We cannot find a way to get a dollar amount for event registrations minus any discounts that is not done manually by taking the total amount, minus the discount amount in a separate column. It seems common sense that a registration tool would provide that and it would not have to be figured manually. And finally, and probably most importantly, we need to be able to modify our dues that portions can be deferred based on the fiscal year. So they are spread out with a portion being applied each month. The only way to make this happen is to move all of our members to a calendar year renewal process and then apply a dues rule. We do not want to move our membership to a calendar year renewal. We want to keep our membership on the anniversary date renewal that they we currently have. This is what works best for our membership and what we want to continue.

I started a new job at a trade association that was already using YM for their AMS system, and spent the first few months getting to know the system. My experience with it is limited, as it's only been a few months, but here's what I've learned so far. Positives: -The pricing is very affordable. I was actually surprised to find out how much we paid per year (I thought it would be more), and I found out that there were no up-front costs for setup.) Negatives: -Lack of analytics. You can't see how active your members are, what they're doing on your site, etc. You can install Google analytics, but I'm looking for reliable, accurate information on things like email open rates. -Search function. Very hard to use and overly complicated. -Design ability. Our site is tied to the YM system, and as a result it doesn't look the way we'd like it to.

We were originally on Affiniscape (which I still consider the best AMS ever!) and made the move to YM after the merger. The transition was AWFUL. They were clearly overloaded and overwhelmed. I had to work with the most disrespectful account manager, and I vowed to never take another client to YM ever again. However, since things have slowed down with the merger and YM can focus more on customer service, things are better. YM really does have a lot of flexibility, more than most AMS platforms (we use several in our office as we are an AMC). Events are quite flexible compared to platforms like Timberlake - I would even say almost comparable to Cvent. Directories can be as public or private as you want. Member records can be quite detailed as well. The email blast system works wonderfully. I really enjoy YM now and would highly recommend it.

We just implemented YourMembership.com and the experience was night-and-day different compared to the last implementation we suffered through. We had a dedicated CSR checking on us to make sure we were completing the training and progressing along the way so we would meet our implementation deadline. He was knowledgeable and explained the options for setting up our database the way we wanted it. There are a few things that are less than perfect, such as the additional steps needed to tie or remove an individual's record to a parent organization record, and the fact that when an individual logs in they can technically register someone else for a meeting, but they have to manually enter the additional people, instead of being able to select their member records. Overall, however, everything else works as we'd anticipated. They have absorbed many competitors over the years, and tend to include the best of those systems, so it can be overwhelming at first to see so many menus and features available. They also release mini-upgrades every two weeks, so if you see something you'd like, just let them know. When we call technical support, they are very professional and responsive, although they only answer calls until 5 pm Eastern time. Bottom-line, their customer service from implementation through tech support has made a positive difference, and we truly feel they value us as a customer (unlike our previous AMS).
