The platform is robust, feature-rich, and benefits from the underlying Microsoft ecosystem which is both its greatest strength and its most consistent pain point. When issues arise, Protech frequently attributes them to Microsoft dependencies, making resolution slow, opaque, and difficult to escalate effectively.
The system is also highly complex. In practice, it is not a turnkey solution. Due to minimal documentation from Protech, organizations without internal institutional knowledge (particularly from the original UX/MX implementation) face a steep operational gap.
As a result, ongoing system optimization typically requires dedicated technical expertise, either through an in-house developer or external consultant, to build and maintain advanced workflows and web components. Compounding this, Protech appears to have limited internal capacity to support or execute these enhancements in a timely manner.

Solid system but we want to push the boundries

The Protech AMS solution is built on top of Microsoft CRM. Protech has provided many great parts but is held back by Microsoft development at times. We do like 95% of the system. We just want to do more, more quickly to keep up with what our members expect from technology today. This is a solid system and one I would recommend. As with any AMS system, be sure to clearly understand your processes, including items that only happen on occasion. This helps ensure you have the system you need. The drawback I see is that the system can do so much and I wish there where more training sessions available - to train the trainer. Protech provides lots of webinars, on demand information and a great user group. But it would be helpful to have training for "how do you do x in the system" for administrators at a nominal cost, or better yet - as part of owning the software.

Strong Reservations with Alliance by Protech

We have been on Protech for several years and found that over time the system becomes more difficult to customize and that response times for problems are lengthy. We have been told that Protech will no longer support customizations and through our recent upgrade, they continually blamed partner vendor for lack of basic functionality. When working with customer support, instead of fixing issues, we are provided work arounds that cause confusion and addtional work for the end user. The cost of system maintenance, service and integration has become an inhibiting factor to upgrading technology and has caused hesitation in utilization of additional Protech features that would help our association grow. I would not recommend Protech to small and/or medium organizations without onsite technical support as serious functionality issues take considerable time to resolve through their support. The system also does not allow for full control over processes like invoicing which can cause challenges in an ever changing association environment. Integration with other platforms is costly. I would certainly think twice and ask many questions about costs associated with upgrades, maintenance and intergration prior to giving Protech a second look. We will be moving away as soon as we are able!

Good System for Complex Organization

Overall, our experience with Protech has been positive. We switched from Impact due to over customizations that would cause upgrades to crash the system. Protech is a robust system. The only negative is that it can be quite expensive in terms of customer service and upgrades (Microsoft is still trying to get to the cloud).

The Good and Bad

Let me start off by saying that i have not found the "PERFECT" AMS that has no issues and works for everyone how they want with total and complete ease of use and understanding. If you have found that solution please let me know but like all solutions there is the good and the bad and how it will work for your organization. We have been on protech for many years and becuase it is built on Microsoft CRM you can use it to your full advantage to create any missing business workflows and everything is fully integrated in to their UX backend and their MX front end which means we have total control of how we need things to work. The bad is that it is so rubust that you can do the same take 5 different ways and they will all work and be correct but then each has its own impact to your business processes and efficiency. They do have some improvements they can make and they do have some that are in the near release that will help that but each assocation does things so differently. This would be one of the complete soliutions on the market that allows you toe contollability and customization abilites to make what you want and have it work within your processes if you dedicate the time and training to do so.

We used Protech for years. We found the customer support to be very good. Our issue was that we were on a very outdated version of MS CRM, that locked us in architecturally. A full upgrade of CRM was going to be necessary in order to use more of the tools that Protech offers. Since we needed to do a full upgrade, it only made sense to evaluate other options, and in the end we migrated away form Protech and MS CRM.

Protech's "UX Online" product is an AMS plugin for Microsoft Dynamics CRM/Dynamics 365. It's well built, and well tested, with an impressive list of features and benefits most membership organizations need.
This robust offering comes with a correspondingly robust pricetag, as does any customizations you need Protech to make on your behalf. Of the few things the system can't do out of the box, Protech is very organized and detailed about gathering requirements, and truly doing things the right way to make the system work for you. This can be frustrating for smaller organizations, with small budgets, who are accustomed to the agility they possess, or the flexibility of working with smaller or less organized vendors. Bottom line is, it works really well if you embrace it, train your staff on it, and can afford it.
